Let’s talk about your happiness
Today, I want to talk about something we all need, crave, and sometimes forget to nurture: your happiness.
As a designer, I interact with many personalities every single day. In fact, some days I feel like I’m running a life-coaching practice right alongside my design studio. People share their stress, their excitement, their overwhelm, their hopes—and I’m right there in the middle of it, helping them create spaces that support their lives.
And while I feel incredibly blessed—truly, I love what I do—life can still get stressful. It can be a challenge to fit everything into a day, meet deadlines, juggle responsibilities, and still remember to take care of yourself. Our stress levels vary, our triggers differ, and our coping styles are unique. But yesterday, I came across a simple little “life hack” that struck me as both helpful and refreshingly doable. I thought I’d pass it along.
It may seem obvious or even like common sense, but sometimes the simplest habits make the biggest impact.
Start your morning with intention
How you begin your day sets the tone for everything that follows. Try starting your morning with four small actions:
- Play music
- Write a gratitude list
- Do one self-care activity
- Complete a simple task
These actions activate your brain’s natural reward chemicals—the ones that help you feel motivated, grounded, and ready to take on the day. It’s like giving yourself a gentle internal “good morning” hug.
Stabilize your mood throughout the day
Life doesn’t stay calm just because we want it to. But you can support your mood with small, mindful practices:
- Meditate
- Take slow, deep breaths
- Sit in the sun for a few minutes
- Take a walk in nature
These activities help regulate your nervous system, calm your thoughts, and bring you back to center. They’re simple, accessible, and incredibly effective.
Boost your love hormones (yes, they’re real!)
Human connection is powerful. It’s healing, comforting, and biologically beneficial. To tap into those warm, bonding chemicals:
- Play with a pet
- Hug someone you love
- Hold hands
- Give a compliment
- Help someone
These moments of kindness and closeness nourish your emotional well-being. They remind you that you’re connected, supported, and part of something bigger.
Activate your natural “pain-killers”
Your body has its own built-in pain-relief system—and you can activate it through joy and movement:
- Laugh (a lot!)
- Exercise
- Use essential oils
- Enjoy a piece of dark chocolate
These small pleasures release endorphins, your body’s natural comfort chemicals. They lift your mood and soften the edges of stress.
Why this matters
Happiness isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. It’s not about ignoring stress or pretending everything is perfect. It’s about creating small, intentional moments that support your mental and emotional well-being.
You don’t need a full lifestyle overhaul. You don’t need a retreat or a week off. You just need a few simple habits that remind your brain and body that you are cared for—by you.
Try it. Truly. Give yourself permission to experiment with these little rituals. I bet you’ll find they feel good, and that they take some of the weight off your shoulders.
Wishing you a peaceful, joy-filled week.
